Birth
Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, known as Boris Johnson, was born in 1964 in New York City and held dual American-British citizenship. His birth was registered by US officials as well as the UK Consulate in New York, giving him both British and American citizenship, but he renounced his US citizenship in 2016.
Education
He went to Eton College near Windsor, an independent boarding school for the children of British aristocracy. Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who is two years younger than Johnson, attended the same school. Johnson studied classical literature at Balliol College, Oxford. It is noteworthy that, during his time at Oxford, he was a member of the Bullingdon Club, which included many UK political figures, including David Cameron and George Osborne.
Journalism
Johnson entered management consulting after college, but did not last more than a week or two and turned to journalism. He worked as an intern reporter for the Times of London. He got a job as a reporter for the Daily Telegraph in Brussels, Belgium, and later became an assistant secretary. In 1999, he became the editor of the popular Spectator magazine, a position he held until 2005. At the same time, he decided to enter politics and ran for parliament in the city of Henley and won. Johnson held the seat until 2008.
Sex Outside of Marriage
In 2006, there were reports of his illicit affair with a journalist. However, as time went on, his blunders got worse. Shortly afterwards, in 2006, Johnson was forced to apologise to the people of Papua Guinea for calling them the offspring of cannibals and murderers! In 2009, from an illicit extramarital affair between Johnson and an art consultant named Helen Macintyre, a daughter named Stephanie was born whose father remained identified until 2012, when the Daily Mail reported it to be Boris Johnson. The revelation of Johnson, then mayor of London, as the father caused a great deal of controversy and led to Johnson suing the newspaper, but the court eventually allowed the public to know about Johnson’s past.
Foreign Secretary
During the referendum on UK’s exit from the EU, he was one of the most prominent figures in the Conservative Party, who, unlike party leader David Cameron, was in favour of UK leaving. Following the referendum for EU membership, Cameron was forced to resign and was replaced by Theresa May. On 13 July 2016, Theresa May appointed Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary.
UK Prime Minister
Five days after Theresa May’s resignation on 7 June 2019, Johnson formally launched his campaign to become prime minister, saying: “After three years and two missed deadlines, we must leave the EU on 31 October. We must do better than the current exit agreement, which has been rejected three times by parliament; and let me make it clear that I am not looking for a result without agreement.” Boris Johnson won a landslide victory over Jeremy Hunt on 23 July 2019 for the Conservative Party leadership after the resignation of Theresa May as Prime Minister. Boris Johnson has always been in favour of leaving the EU, and he achieved this goal after becoming prime minister.
